Abstract
While the theory behind event safety best practices can be learned, it is much more difficult to envision how this would actually work in reality without practice. In this session, participants - event organisers or those interested in becoming one, primarily - will compare different incident severities and discuss past experiences in organising events. We will act out event safety scenarios, allowing participants to practice approaching those breaching Friendly Space expectations in a safe and controlled environment. This will be tied to the event safety resource kit, which provides a high-level overview of Friendly Space best practices when organising an event.
Outcomes
Participants should leave with a better understanding of the kinds of incidents that can arise at events, and - better still - be better equipped to deal with these. They can also gain new insight on how others have handled event safety issues at their events, lessons which can be applied for future efforts.
