From Wikimania

Hi Balajijagadesh, Scuba diving is an activity for which training is generally considered essential, and without evidence of competence in the form of a certification or logbook, it is unlikely that any dive boat operator would accept you as a client. The minimum time for training is over a weekend, during which time there will be both theory and practical training and assessment. The Wikimania dive charter can only accept divers who can show evidence that they are competent to do the planned dives. Cheers, Pbsouthwood (talk) 12:40, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Pbsouthwood: Thanks for the clarification. Cheers -- Balajijagadesh (talk) 12:43, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, If you are sufficiently interested, there is plenty of time to learn to dive before you come to Wikimania, or if scuba diving is not practicable in your home region, and you are willing to stay on for a few more days you could do a course here, we have several good dive schools. @Pbsouthwood: Currently my schedule is not confirmed. But I really look forward for scuba diving. I will explore the possibility of staying few more days for scuba diving. How many days would it require to get the certificate? -- Balajijagadesh (talk) 12:51, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It varies, depending on the school and whether you can do the theory on-line. The most popular course is probably the PADI open water diver, which as far as I know takes 3 to 4 days, and provides a certificate recognised internationally for recreational diving to depths not exceeding 18m. I have no idea of prices, but can get you links to the Cape Town schools. There is one quite close to the conference venue in the V&A Waterfront. In the meanwhile I will shamelessly recommend Wikivoyage:Diving the Cape Peninsula and False Bay, and the Wikipedia:Underwater diving articles on Wikipedia for more information. @Pbsouthwood: Thanks for taking time to explain all these. I ll look into them. -- Balajijagadesh (talk) 13:07, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
