Title

Finding ways to unfold our full potential as global movement to advocate for Open Educational Resources

Abstract

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal on Quality Education (SDG 4), aims to “ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning”. This overlaps with our movement strategy goal concerning “knowledge equity” in many ways. As movement we want to break down the social, political, and technical barriers preventing people from accessing and contributing to free knowledge. Open Educational Resources are materials under an open licence and therefore anyone can legally and freely copy, use, adapt and re-share them. OER can be an instrument to bridge knowledge gaps and provide knowledge equity as well as to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal 4.

In 2019, a UNESCO Recommendation on Open Educational Resources will be adopted by its 195 member states to contribute to SDG4. This can be seen as a window of opportunity to work together closely to positively accompany and influence the preparation of this Recommendation. If we use the full potential of our worldwide movement with experience in Open Education and Open Educational Resources we can hugely impact the preparation process of the Recommendation in our interests concerning our movement strategy on “knowledge equity”.

To foster future activities and global advocacies on OER we want to discuss strategies on how to improve and strengthen our worldwide network collaboration within the movement. We will try to set new impulses and find ways to improve and elaborate internal communication channels, exchange experience and knowledge of the different chapters.
