Abstract

In Phase I of the strategy process, we agreed upon the movement's Strategic Direction: to become the essential infrastructure of the ecosystem for free knowledge, with the strategic priorities of knowledge equity and knowledge as a service.

Now it's time to determine how we actually get there: The Movement Strategy Core Team is building a process to coordinate and facilitate the movement wide change process for movement structures. Our aim is to create collective ownership of this process, and Wikimania is a perfect venue to create and enrich the process with individuals and groups from across and beyond the movement to answer the critical questions we need to resolve around our structures in order to be successful?

From now to Wikimania 2019, Working Groups will develop guidance regarding how the movement evolves in nine key thematic areas: Roles & Responsibilities, Revenue Streams, Resource Allocation, Capacity Building, Partnerships, Advocacy, Diversity, Community Health, Product & Technology.

In this session, we will provide an overview of the strategy process and present ways to get involved – at Wikimania and afterwards. Participants will have the chance to address questions and feedback in a facilitated group exercise.

Outcomes

As a result of this session and the Strategy Space Program (room 3203, all weekend) at Wikimania, participants will have a good understanding of the developments in the movement wide strategy process and of how they can get involved. They will understand what is the status of key discussions around transformations needed in movement structures. Through in-person participation in these discussions they will be inspired and empowered to be agents of change within our movement.
