Event organizers meetup

The Wikimedia movement is moving towards more and more diverse events. Some events, like regional conferences and Wikimania, are rotating and each year different (volunteer) teams organize the events. How can we make sure that knowledge is passed from one team to another? Should we create an (informal) event organizers support group?

I would be glad to start the discussion to see what's possible. Any input is welcome!
